Autumn Abundance Returns: Celebrate the Splendor of Fall at Meijer Gardens This October
Experience the vibrant beauty of autumn like never before at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park with the return of “Mums at Meijer Gardens.” Formerly known as Chrysanthemums & More!, this annual fall exhibition kicks off on October 1 and runs through October 31, offering visitors a spectacular showcase of Michigan’s largest display of chrysanthemums and autumn plantings.
This year’s event, set across the park’s 158 acres, features thousands of vibrant blooms and rich fall foliage. With a fresh name and timeline, “Mums at Meijer Gardens” promises to surprise and delight guests with unique combinations of autumn plants arranged in intriguing and unconventional ways.
Exhibition Highlights:
- Grace Jarecki Seasonal Display Greenhouse: The centerpiece of the exhibition, this greenhouse is filled with an array of chrysanthemums and autumn plantings in a stunning variety of colors and forms.
- Earl & Donalee Holton Victorian Garden Parlor & Lena Meijer Tropical Conservatory: These indoor spaces showcase specialty mums, offering a striking contrast to the outdoor displays.
- BISSELL Corridor: Each week, local florists create bespoke floral arrangements, spotlighting the beauty and versatility of mums.
- Outdoor Plantings: The expansive outdoor gardens, including the Urban Gardens, Grand Entry Garden, and Lena Meijer Children’s Garden, feature noteworthy displays of autumn harvests, heirloom vegetables, and towering pumpkins. Don’t miss the Stuart and Barbara Padnos Rooftop Sculpture Garden, where the seasonal landscape is complemented by newly installed sculptures from the David Smith: The Nature of Sculpture exhibition.
This year, visitors can also enjoy fall-themed events every Tuesday evening in October from 5:00 to 8:30 pm. These special nights feature live music, pumpkin carving demonstrations, lawn games, and more, set against the picturesque backdrop of the season. Unique attractions include the Glow Garden in the Gwen Frostic Woodland Shade Garden, where hand-etched pumpkins and glowing logs create an enchanting atmosphere.
